Japanese hobbyist caught selling counterfeit Fender guitars

JAPANESE prosecutors were investigating a man who admitted to manufacturing counterfeit Fender guitars, a local newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old is suspected of building 30 guitars and selling them under the brand Fender, an iconic guitar manufacturer founded in 1946 in the United States, the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reported.

The suspect who has confessed to the crime, saying it had been a hobby,  thought to have sold them with the help of an app for 900,000 yen (8,500 dollars).

The Scottsdale, Arizona-headquartered Fender Guitars had noticed that fake instruments were being sold online before alerting police.
