SOME civil servants on grade level 12 and below in Jigawa, are yet to comply with the state government’s directive to resume work today, after it had lifted the work-from-home order, to curtail the spread of coronavirus, NAN check has revealed.
The check conducted on Friday, in Dutse, showed that activities were low, as few workers were seen moving from one block to another within the secretariat complex.
It was also observed that most of the parking spaces at the complex, which used to be filled with vehicles, were near empty.
NAN reports that the state government had on Dec. 23, 2020, directed civil servants from grade level 12 and below to work from home for two weeks, to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, on Jan. 21, the government directed the affected workers to resume on Jan. 22.
Some of the workers, who spoke to NAN on the condition of anonymity, blamed the low turnout on the timing of the resumption.
One of the workers, who simply identified himself as Bature, said that the government should have moved the resumption date to Jan. 25.
“The resumption date should have been moved to next Monday. That way, workers would have used this weekend to prepare for resumption.’’
One of the workers, however, was optimistic that the civil servants in that category would fully comply with the order by Monday, Jan. 25.
When contacted, Ismail Ibrahim, spokesman, Office of the State Head of the Civil Service, said that some of the workers living outside Dutse might have been affected by the resumption order.
“Yes, it will be very difficult for them to resume today because the majority of them are not living in Dutse. But I am sure they will all resume on Monday,” the spokesman said. – NAN
