Jobless man, 20, gets N100,000 bail over alleged break-in, N1m property theft

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday granted an applicant, Solomon Ibeh, N100,000 bail for allegedly stealing properties worth N1 million.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, while granting the accused bail, said he should provide two responsible sureties in like sum.
Sule-Amzat said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
The 20-year-old applicant, who resides at Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, said the accused and others now at large committed the offences at School Gate, Lakowe Town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, at about 5.00 p.m, on June 24.
Benson alleged that the accused and his accomplices broke into the apartment of the complainant, one Mr Amechi Muotume, to steal.
“The complainant saw the accused coming out of his apartment with his accomplices, but when he raised an alarm they ran away, ” he said.
Emuerhi said items taken away included dredging parts, and other valuables valued at N1 million belonging to the complainant.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 308 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The case has been adjourned until Oct. 22 for trial. (NAN)
