RETIRED naval officer and administrator, 69, December 10. Born in Babura, Jigawa State, he was educated at Edward Blyden Memorial School, Lafiagi, Lagos, 1953-1954; Holy Trinity School, Kano, 1955-1060; Ibo Union Secondary School, Kano, 1961-1965; Nigeria Defence Academy, 1966-1968 and India Naval School, INS, Nysole India, 1968-1969. Ayinla was commissioned substantive lieutenant, 1970; commander, NNS Enugu and NNS Ibadan, 1971-1972; navigation officer, NNS Dorina and NNS, Nigerian instructor, naval wing, NDA, 1973-1975; commanding officer, NNS Ruwayanro, 1975-1977 and executive officer, NNS Bee Craft, 1977-1979. He became chief of staff, Naval Training Command, NAVTRAC, 1989; commander, Naval Ordinance Corps and chief of personnel, Naval Headquarters, 1991-1992 and flag officer commanding Eastern Naval command, 1992-1994. He was appointed minister of commerce and tourism, 1996-1997; minister of health, 1997-1998; chief of naval staff, Nigerian Navy, 1998-1999. Ayinla is the Aare Gbadeniyi of Egbaland and Jagunnade of Lagos.
