A Grade I Area Court Judge in Kubwa, Abuja, Muhammad Adamu, on Tuesday advised a 27-year-old woman, Ifeoma Maduakar, who bit and threatened to poison her father, to work hard to win her parents’ love again.

The police charged Maduakar with criminal intimidation, assault and mischief on Feb.19. She pleaded not guilty.

The judge, gave the advice, after the prosecution counsel, John Okpa told the court that the Maduakars have resolved to agree to a settlement.

”Young woman, you must respect your parents and work towards being a better and responsible person to win your family’s love back,” he said.

Adamu adjourned the case until Oct.22 for report of settlement.

Earlier, the defendant told the court that her family abandoned her and refused to cater to her needs.

” My family refused to take care of me. They have left me to fend for myself.

” I graduated from Secondary School in 2011 and gained admission into the University of Abuja in 2015 but I did not receive support from home, ” Maduakar said.

Also testifying, the mother of the defendant, Gloria, said: ”We have tried out  best to make the defendant a better person.

” She has refused to change her ways, she does not respect or regard me as a mother, I always tell her that she can only have one mother in life and not two.

” My husband is in the village at the moment but we put her through school and she did not complete her University degree due to her way of life.

” Her elder sister is settled and married with children but Maduakar sleeps around and comes back home after a week” she said.

The defendant’s mother reported the matter at Area Command Headquarters, Kubwa, Abuja on Feb. 6.

The defendant allegedly threatened to poison her father,  Samuel, if he made any attempt to stop her from attending a tailoring apprenticeship, sometime in August, 2019.

The prosecution counsel revealed that the defendant inflicted  grievous injuries on her father’s right arm when she bit him.

He also alleged that the defendant damaged his Techno cellphone.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 397, 265 and 327 of the Penal Code.

The defendant was remanded in prison on Feb. 19 but eventually released on bail on the said month by the court.(NAN)
