3 labourers, trader, in court for allegedly stealing building materials worth N848, 000

THREE labourers and a trader, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of building materials valued at N848,000.

The accused persons are Nurudeen Omotosho, 32; Fatai Sanusi, 25; Kigho Emugiago, 25 and Musa Mohammed, 52.

The suspects, who reside at Ojota, Lagos, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, said the offences were committed on June 7 at Olusosun Bus Terminal Construction Site, Ojota.

Donny said that Omotosho, Samurai and Emugiago,who worked as labourers at the site stole 80 pieces of acro pipes valued at N800,000 and 18 bags of cement valued at N48,000 and sold them to Mohammed.

“They were discovered when the store manager took stock and found that the items were missing,” he said.

Donny said that the labourers later confessed at the police station that they had sold the missing items to Mohammed.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O Adedayo, granted Omotosho, Samurai and Emugiago, bails in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like  sum and Mohammed, a bail of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until July 2 for mention.
