Bus driver docked for allegedly stabbing passenger

A bus driver, Victor Bassey, who allegedly assaulted a man by using a broken bottle to stab him, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The defendant, 30, was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and manner likely to cause breach of the peace, an offence he denied committing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Urobosa had told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 14, at Costain bus stop, Iganmu.

He alleged that Bassey had used a broken bottle to tear open the hand of the complainant, Uche Sebastine, who is presently lying critically ill in the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

“Bassey had refused to give Sebastine his N200 balance after the end of his trip and the duo had gotten into a fight, in the process, the defendant broke a bottle and stabbed the complainant on his right hand,” he said.

The alleged offences contravened Sections 168 and 413 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Folarin-Williams, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 12 for mention. (NAN)
