AN Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday remanded a 23-year-old conductor, Sodiq Murili, in prison for allegedly robbing a man of his  cell phone at knife point.

Murili who lives at 75, Olagbade St., Parafa, Ikorodu,  is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.

The defendant’s plea was, however, not taken by the court.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the defendant on Nov. 9 at 7:15p.m. at Owode-Elede Road in  Ikorodu conspired with four others curently at large to rob a man of his cell phone at knife point.

She said that the defendant and his accomplices accosted one Mr Olawale Dosumu when he was returning from work and robbed him of his Infinix phone valued at N61, 000.

“The defendant and his conspirators waylaid Dosumu,  brandishing two sharp knives and threatened to stab him.

“A passer- by and a motorcyclist who saw what was happening came to his rescue and apprehended Murili,” she said.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 297(1) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297(1) prescribes three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit robbery and  Section 299 carries three years for demanding property with menaces, with intent to steal.

The magistrate, Mr M.O. Dawodu, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in prison.

He adjourned the case until Jan. 31, 2020 for the receipt of  legal  advice from the office of the  Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).(NAN)
