Court remands 2 in prison over alleged cable wire theft

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Wednesday, remanded Famobio Segun, 38 and Osuolale Jamiu, 28, in prison custody over alleged cable wire theft.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode refused the accused bail but asked their Defence Counsel, Mr Nicholas Babatunde to come with a written application.

Ijiyode, therefore, ordered for the remand of the accused in prison custody pending the consideration of their bail.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct 19, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. at former CDL office, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused conspired to commit felony to wit: stealing.

He said that the accused stole the cable valued N250, 000, property of OAU.

According to him, the accused unlawfully destroyed some cable wire by cutting the wire to pieces.

The prosecutor further said that the accused assaulted Ayanrinde Gbemileke, who was on duty at the former CDL office, OAU.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 252, 351, 380, 390 (9), 451 (k) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 12 for further hearing. (NAN)
