AN Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 27-year-old bricklayer, Ahmed Alao, who allegedly impersonated a military officer and beat-up a Kwara traffic officer, Akindele Opeyemi.

The defendant is facing a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, impersonation, assault, obstruction of public servant from the discharging of lawful duties and mischief.

The presiding magistrate, Mr. Aminat Idiagbon, in his short ruling, ordered for the remand of the defendant in the correctional service centre in Ilorin.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Sani had told the court stated that Alao, dressed in military camouflage, drove a motorcycle with his cohort against traffic and when accosted, allegedly unleashed terror on Akindele, an official of Kwara State Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA).

He noted that the defendant, while obstructing Opeyemi on his duty, torn his clothes and destroyed his Infinix hot five GSM phone, valued N45, 000.

Sani further stated that the alleged offenses contravened Sections 97,132,265,148 and 327 of the Penal Code.

He urged the court to remand the defendant in custody as the accused person had no clear address and no credible person to surety him on bail.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The court adjourned the matter until April 2, for further mention. (NAN)
