A Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi on Monday ordered that a farmer, Tyongi Iornengen, be remanded in a correctional centre over the alleged armed robbery.

The police charged Iornengen with conspiracy and armed robbery.

Magistrate Ajuma Igama who did not take the plea of Iornengen for want of jurisdiction ordered that he be remanded in Makurdi Correctional Centre. She adjourned the case until July 17, 2020, for further mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Ato Godwin told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division police station, Wadata, Makurdi by the complainant, Wende James of No.144B  Km 3 Gboko road Makurdi Benue.

Ato alleged that the complainant said that Iornengen, along with three others, attacked him around in Wadata, Makurdi and stole his Honda motorcycle.

Godwin said the investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked the court for an adjournment.

He said the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 6(b) and 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision Act 2004. (NAN)
