Court remands father for allegedly defiling his 17-year-old daughter

AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 38-year-old electrician, Chukwueke Ashiedu, who allegedly defiled his 17-year-old daughter, pending advice of  the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, ordered that the defendant should be kept in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos state. She adjourned the case until April 25 for mention.

The police accused the defendant, a resident of Haruna in Ikorodu area of Lagos,  of defiling his daughter, a minor. His plea was not taken.

The Prosecutor, Insp Benson Emuerhi, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 20, 2015 at 3 p.m. at his residence.

“He defiled his 17-year-old daughter (name withheld) by having carnal knowledge of her,” he said.

The prosecutor told the court that the case was reported at the Gender Section of Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, by the victim accompanied by her school teacher, one Mrs Caroline and school coordinator, Mr Lekan Akinborode whom she informed.

She that the defendant started to sexually assault his daughter four years ago.

Emuerhi said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The offence is punishable by life imprisonment. (NAN)
