Court remands man over alleged extortion, theft

A Kubwa Grade1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered the remand of one Godwin Ipuole over alleged extortion and theft.

The judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, ordered the defence counsel, Anenin Enabosi, to make a formal bail application for his client, and adjourned the matter until Dec. 21.

The defendant, who resides in Zuba, Abuja, is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, extortion and theft, offences he denied committing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Babajide Olanipekun, had told the court that one Justina Ufot and Akwalu Thelma, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Aug. 1.

He alleged that the defendant and two others now at large, conspired to commit the offence.

He told the court that the defendant threatened the lives of the complainants, who were passengers in his commercial vehicle, plying the Kubwa express road.

Olanipeku alleged that the defendant and his cohorts, collected two Infinix cell phones valued at N110, 000, ATM cards and other valuables, which total cost was estimated at N400, 000 from the complainants.

He told the court that police operatives recovered from the defendant on his arrest, an Infinix note 4.

He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97, 291 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
