THE High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi, on Wednesday granted bail to Maryam Sanda, who is being prosecuted for allegedly stabbing her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death, on November 19, 2017.

Justice Yusuf Halilu who granted her bail on health grounds, had previously dismissed her two previous bail applications.

The judge had earlier in a ruling delivered on  December 14, 2017, granted bail to Sanda’s three co-defendants, but declined her plea for bail and ordered her to be remanded in Suleja prisons.

On February 7, 2018, the judge also dismissed another bail application which the defendant, a nursing mother, anchored on her newly discovered pregnancy.

However, her counsel, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), filed another bail which he moved on Wednesday.

The police prosecuting counsel, Mr.  James Idachaba, opposed the application.

However, in his bench ruling, Justice Halilu said the court was satisfied with the health grounds on which the application was founded.

Dismissing the prosecution’s objection to the application, the judge held that they (the prosecution) failed to counter the applicant’s claim that her ailment could not be treated in the prisons’ health facilities.

Justice Halilu, ordered, as part of the bail conditions, that she should provide two sureties who must deposit their titles of ownership of landed properties in Abuja.

He also ordered that Maryam’s father should enter into an undertaking to always provide her in court throughout her trial.

Sanda, a nursing mother, is being prosecuted alongside her mother, Maimuna Aliyu; brother, Aliyu Sanda; and their house help, Sadiya Aminu.
