Fake commercial driver, conductor docked for allegedly dispossessing passenger of cell phone

A fake commercial driver and his conductor were on Thursday docked at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly dispossessing a passenger of his cell phone valued at N56,000.

The accused persons, Boniface Ape, 33, and Innocent Ago, 27, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft, to which they pleaded innocence.

The prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike, told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on Nov. 2, at 10:00 p.m. at Ajah, Eti-Osa, Lekki, Lagos.

He said that the duo disguised as a commercial bus driver and a conductor, plying Ajah, Lekki and CMS, lured a passenger, Eromosele Iragbonse, into their vehicle and forcefully collected his cell phone valued at N56, 000.

He added that the accused persons tried to push the complainant off the bus and he raised an alarm and a police officer around the scene apprehended the duo.

Dike said that during police investigation, a stolen Samsung cell phone was also found in their possession.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment while Section 411stipulates two years imprisonment, respectively, for convicted offenders.

The Magistrate, Mr T. A. Anjorin-Ajose, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety each, in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must be a blood relation to the accused. The case was then adjourned until Dec. 5, for trial. (NAN)
