A 38-year-old farmer, Andrrawus Adamu, was on Thursday remanded in Prison by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kaduna, over alleged culpable homicide.

The accused, a resident of Ungwan Mayere, in the Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, is facing a count charge of culpable homicide.

The Magistrate, Mrs Zainab Mohammed, declined to take the plea of the accused, on the ground of lack of the jurisdiction.

Mohammed said that the offence could only be tried by a High Court.

She, however, ordered the Police to forward the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecutions, for legal advice.

The magistrate, however, adjourned the matter until Jan. 7, 2019 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Baba, had told the court that one Anwal Shuaibu, of same address with the accused reported the matter at Makarfi Police Station on Oct. 24.

Baba said that the complainant was on his way to Ungwan Karofi in Kaduna when a neighbour called to inform him that his son, Anwal Saidu, was killed by the accused during a fight.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused and the deceased engaged in a fight and the accused hit the victim with a stone which led to his death on the way to the hospital.

Baba said that during investigation, the accused confessed to the crime.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 190 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017. (NAN)
