Fashion designer docked over inability to produce suspect

THE police on Tuesday arraigned a 33-year-old fashion designer,  Aisha Ibrahim, in a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, over her inability to produce a police suspect.

Ibrahim, who resides on No: 22 Shaiskaw Street, Sadiko in Kaduna State  is charged with screening an offender

The prosecutor, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha , told the court that one Chidiebere Orji of Angwan Sha-wo village Karmo, Abuja reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Jan. 18.

Ukagha said that on Jan. 17 at about 2.30 a.m. the suspect, Sanusi, a younger brother of the defendant, broke into Orji’s house and stole ” assorted phones”, clothes and other valuable worth N478, 500.

She informed the court that Ibrahim, who promised to produce Sanusi, to answer to the theft charge, failed to do so.

Ukagha said the offence contravened  the provisions of Section 167 of the Penal Code

After the charge was read to her, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum and the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Maiwada ordered that the surety must present valid means of identification, utility bill in his name and passport size photographs to the court’s registrar.

The judge adjourned the case until June 24 for hearing.
