Gold dealer in court for allegedly cheating, converting customer’s N3.4m to personal use

A gold dealer, Abdulsalam Suleiman, who allegedly converted a customer’s N3.4million to personal use was on Friday arraigned in a Wuse Zone 6 Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The police charged Suleiman with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecutor, Emmanuel Ochai had told the court that one Hajara Adamu of Sultan Abubakar Street, Gwarimpa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abuja on May 25.

He said that the complainant told the police that sometime in November, 2017, she gave the accused N3.4 million to supply her with a gold jewelry set that weighs about 165 kgs.

Ochai said the after collecting the money, the accused refused to gove the complainant the jewelry or return her money.

The prosecutor further alleged that the complaint said all effort to get the money back had proved abortive as the defendant had dishonestly converted the money to his personal use.

Ochai said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

After the charges were read to Suleiman, he pleaded not guilty.

In a ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Aminu Abdullahi, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abdullahi, then adjourned the case until Sept. 17, for hearing. (NAN)
