Maid in court for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth N3m

THE police on Friday arraigned a housemaid, Valerie Okwor, in a Grade I Area Court Nyanya, Abuja, for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth N3 million. Okwor, 25, is charged with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the defendant was employed by Ms Anna-Maria Jojozi of No 8, Rhine street Maitama, Abuja as a house help.

Nwaforaku alleged that the defendant stole a gold wristwatch, earrings and necklaces all value N3 million.

He said during police investigation, it was discovered that the defendant committed the offence and all effort to recover the jewellery failed.

The case was reported at Maitama police station by the complainant, Jojozi.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 289 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Judge, Abdullahi Ogedengbe, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N 1.5 million with two sureties each in like sum.

Ogedengbe adjourned the case until July 21 for hearing. (NAN)
