THE Oyo State Police on Tuesday docked a 22-year-old man, Dominic Jonathan, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly and unlawfully possessing a locally-made-single barrel gun with live cartridges.
Jonathan, of an undisclosed address, was charged with a count of unlawful possession of firearms.
The prosecutor, Sgt.Opeyemi Olagunju, told the court that Jonathan on Aug.3 was alleged to unlawfully be in possession of one locally-made-single barrel gun with 11 live cartridges without justification.
Olagunju said the defendant committed the offence at about 9:30a.m., on Aug.3 at Oje area of Ibadan.
He said the offence contravened Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII Vol.14, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The defence counsel, Mr Adeleke Bakare, plead with the court to grant bail to the defendant in liberal terms.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Oladele Adisa granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adisa also ruled that one of the sureties must possess evidence of payment of three years’ tax while the other must be a civil servant of Grade Level 8.
The matter was adjourned until Oct.22 for mention.
