Man, 29, docked over alleged assault, malicious damage

A 29-year-old man, Samuel Omotunde, on Thursday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stabbing a security guard with a knife.
Omotunde, who resides at Aliu Jimoh Street, Orile Iganmu in Lagos State, is facing a four-count charge of damage to property, assault, conspiracy and a breach of the public peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutor Adetutu Sanusi told the court that the accused committed the offences with some other persons still at large on Jan. 12, at Sunderland Hotel Annex 3, Orile Iganmu in Surulere, Lagos State.
Sanusi said the accused stormed the hotel with dangerous weapons and violently scared customers and logders.
She said that the accused stabbed the hotel’s guard, one Wasiu Wahab, and damaged some plastic chairs and tables worth N72, 000.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 56, 168, 172, 173, 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 .
In her ruling, the magistrate, Mrs T. O. Abayomi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Feb.7 for trial.
