Man, 33, faces trial for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence

A 33- year-old-man, Moses Oluwaseyi, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N240,000 by false pretence.

Oluwaseyi, who has no fixed address, is facing a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence, unlawful conversion and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2016 at Aga area in Ikorodu.

Ajiteru said Oluwaseyi fraudulently obtained N70,000 from one Mr Babalola Oluwalekan with the pretence to construct an iron container, and another N50,000; that his vehicle developed mechanical fault, knowing all to be false.

She said that the defendant also unlawfully converted the sum of N120, 000 belonging to the complainant to his personal use.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 314, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, Mr O. M. Dawodu, granted the defendant a N50, 000 bail with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case until Sept. 12 for mention.
