A man, Olamilekan Olayemi, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly absconding with his employer’s N618,000 goods.

Olayemi, 41, who was employed as a sales clerk by the complainant, Mrs Margaret Ogbawande,  collected goods worth N618,000 from her, sold them and kept the proceeds.

Police Prosecutor Godwin Awase told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in May at Ogba in Ikeja area of Lagos.

“After the accused collected the goods, he sold them, abandoned the complainant’s vehicle in one of outlets and ran away with the proceeds.

“Efforts by the complainant to get her money were unsuccessful as the accused quickly parked out of his apartment and he refused to pick her calls.

“He was later arrested at his hide-out in Ikorodu, Lagos State, and handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Olayemi, whose address is unknown, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing and fraud preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.

She adjourned the case until July 18.
