A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old plumber, Daniel Amos, to three months imprisonment for stealing a gas cylinder.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine.
Maiwada also ordered the police to release the cylinder to the owner.

Amos, of Kado village Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft.
The convict had admitted committing the offence and begged the court to temper justice with mercy as he did not know what came over him.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, had told the court that one Docas John of Gongola Block Industry, along Airport Road, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja on June 1.

Ukagha said that something in January, she was hospitalised at Federal Medical Centre Abuja; while Amos went to her house and stole her cooking gas cylinder valued at N9,000.
Ukagha said during police investigation, he confessed to the crime and the cylinder was recovered from him.

She said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
