Police arraign 3 over alleged armed robbery, rape

THREE persons; Msughve Iorkyaa, Koforo Norom and Norom Nicholas were on Wednesday arraigned before a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for alleged armed robbery and rape.

The police prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Godwin told the court that the case was reported at the Benue Police Command by one Gabriel Tyozenda of Tse Ajebe Ucha Village, Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue.

Ato further told the court that a group of persons numbering seven, broke into the complainant’s house at the above address with guns and matches.

“They robbed him of the sum of N50,000 and forcefully raped his wife, one MneneTyozenda in his presence.

“They later broke into his brother’s room by name Iorpuu Atsehe and ordered him to give them money but when they did not find anything, they beat him up and inflicted injuries on his back,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the accused persons were arrested for the crime while others are still at large.

The plea of the accused persons were not taken for want of jurisdiction.

Ato said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked for another date for mention.

He further said the offence contravened Section 6(b), 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act, 2004 and Section 284 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State, 2004.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ajuma Igama ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Federal Prison Makurdi and adjourned the case to Aug. 15, for further mention. (NAN)
