Six men on Tuesday appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for the alleged murder of a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The accused persons are: Toheeb Akinjobi, 29; Chinedu Okorie, 24; Samuel Adeleke, 26; Dolapo Fasasi, 24; Adekunle Dabiri, 38; Kazeem Qudri, 43.

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder but their pleas were not taken.

The Prosecution, led by Mr. J.I Eboseremen and Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, had told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on Oct. 27, at Agbowa Area in Lagos State.

The prosecution said the accused persons conspired among themselves to murder DSP Akindele Akingboju of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

Eboseremen said that the accused persons who were also suspected cultists, had blocked the road preventing the police from leaving the scene where they had gone to arrest some suspected cultists in the area.

“They had cornered the late DSP Akingboju and pelted him with stones and had also beaten him to death,’’ he said.

The offences contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adedayo, ordered the remand of the accused persons at the Ikoyi Prison, pending legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions.

Adedayo adjourned the case until Nov. 26, for mention. (NAN)
