Police arraign septuagenarian for malicious damage, assault on tenant

THE police on Tuesday arraigned a septuagenarian, Festus Inajomo, who allegedly entered a premises and broke two crates of egg, three bottles of hot Chelsea gin, in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos .

Inajomo, 75, is charged with two counts of assault, unlawful and willful damage.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

Insp Waheed Sanusi, the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, at No. 12, Agunbiade St., Sari Iganmu.

She alleged that the defendant destroyed two crates of egg, 3 bottles of hot Chelsea gin, sachets of grounded sugar and a medium cooler all valued at N10,000 and belonging to Afolabisi Kalifah, his tenant.

She also said that the defendant used a broken bottle to stab the complainant, Kalifah, on the left hand during a scuffle with her.

The offence he said, contravened the provisions of sections 173 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate A.O. Olagbende,in her ruling, held that the defendant was too old to be sent to prison.

She ordered the defendant to write a letter of undertaken not to harass the complainant again.

She also ordered him to pay the hospital bills of the defendant and the cost of what he damaged. (NAN)
