Sales rep in court for misappropriating company funds

A sales representative, Mohammed Bashir, 33,who allegedly misappropriated N1million belonging to a company, on Friday appeared in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Bashir, who resides in Kawo Kaduna, is charged with two counts of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution counsel, Insp Leo Chidi, told the court that the matter was reported on July 28 at the Kawo Police Station by Malam Umar Abdullahi of Nasarawa Road Kawo Kaduna.

Chidi alleged that the defendant, a sale representative of Abdullahi Trading Company Nigeria Ltd, misappropriated N664,000 realised from the sale of  63 leather carpets on June 13, 2019.

He alleged that the fraud was discovered during an audit of the company accounts.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 297 and 294 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Emmanuel adjourned the case until Aug. 30 for mention. (NAN)
