Student allegedly steals N280, 000 motorcycle

A 23-year-old student, Tunde Adeleke, who allegedly stole a Boxer BM motorcycle valued at N280,000 from where it was parked, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, who resides at No. 14 Shittu Thompson St., Off Rogo-Ishaga, Lagos, was arraigned for stealing but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Matthew Akhaluode, the defendant stole the  motorcycle from one Mr Emmanuel Agbo.

Akhaluode told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 22 at 6.00a.m. at Rogo-Ishaga.

He said that the defendant stole the motorcycle and ran away.

“The complainant (Agbo) raised alarm and the defendant was apprehended by passersby,” he said.

The alleged offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. A. Adetunji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 bail with sureties in like sum.

Adetunji ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She added that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case until March 30 for hearing.
