A 32-year-old woman, Peace Akwa, who allegedly bit her co-tenants nose during a dispute, is now standing trial before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The police on Tuesday charged Akwa, who resides at No. 72, Ogba Road, Agege, Lagos State, with assault, but she denied committing the offence.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Victor Eruada alleged that the defendant used her teeth to inflict a deep cut on Mrs Ronke Alade’s nose during an argument.

He said that Akwa committed the offence on January 26, at 5:30 p.m. at their residence.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that assault contravenes Section 173 of the revised Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Section stipulates a three-year jail term for the offence. Magistrate M. I. Dan-Oni granted Akwa N50, 000 bails with one surety in like sum.

Dan-Oni ordered that the surety must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government. The magistrate adjourned the case until March 6 for mention. (NAN)
