THE Kano State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to upgrade the Gwarmai vocational training center in Kunchi Local Government Area of the state to a Technical College.
The assembly made the call at its plenary, on Monday, following a motion presented by Garba Ya’u Gwarmai, a member representing APC Kunchi/Stanyawa Constituency.
In moving the motion, Ya’u-Gwarmai explained that science and technical education were some of the areas that contributed so much to the development of any country and also the world in general.
“When you look at most of the developed countries, like China and others, they attained their present positions in the world economy through the science and technology sector.
“Therefore, it became necessary for me to make such a call, so that the people of the area can also benefit from such global development.
“Most of the LGAs around the area do not have such technical colleges. Therefore, if upgraded, the people of those areas can also benefit from it as well as push the state forward in technology.
“Also, after graduation, the students will be self-reliant and will not depend on government jobs’’ , he said.
After deliberations on the issue, the lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion and called on the state government to upgrade the center to a technical college.
The assembly also called on the state government to renovate a 35-bed capacity Abasawa hospital, in Gezawa Local Government Area.
The call followed a motion presented by the member representing PDP Gezawa constituency, and the minority leader of the House, Isiyaku Ali-Danja.
According to him, the condition of the hospital was terrible to the extent that it was unable to admit patients, hence the need for urgent attention.
The lawmakers also unanimously adopted the motion and called on the state government to take necessary action.(NAN)
