THE Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Command in Katsina, said it collected a revenue of N124.9 million from August to date.

The command’s Area Comptroller, Wada Chedi, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Katsina on Thursday.

He said there was a significant increase of N25.1 million collected within the period as compared with the revenue collected during the preceding month.

Chedi explained that the command was able to achieve this feat due to the strategies put in place, especially on the Jibia to Katsina metropolis road.

He attributed the success of the command’s efforts to its collaboration with security agencies in the state.

The Comptroller said that goods worth 20,263 tons were also exported out of the country through the command’s borders in the period.

He said that this was against more than10,000 tons exported previously.

Chedi said the service would not rest on its oars to ensure that it suppressed smuggling to the barest minimum through the borders of the state.

He appealed to border communities to provide important information to officers and men of the NCS in the fight against smuggling.

“Let me stress that the Customs is not against anyone doing his or her business but that business must be legitimate.

“Anybody can come to us, for us to guide him or her to do business,” Chedi added.(NAN)
