The second edition of the Omu-Aran Economic and Political Summit is set to hold on Dec. 29 in Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.

The President of Omu-Aran People’s Forum (OPF), Yinka Babalola, made this known in a statement in Omu-Aran.

The statement said in part: “You will recall that during the course of the year, we had so many discussions bordering on Omu-Aran’s development.

“We have therefore decided to organise an Omu-Aran Economic and Political Summit for the end of this year. It will take place at the Omu-Aran City Hall on December 29, by God’s grace.

“We want all Omu-Aran sons and daughters all over Nigeria and in the Diaspora to come home and have an input in charting a way to our future, a way to a rapid development of Omu-Aran.”

Babalola said the summit would focus on human capital development, employment and empowerment for the youths.

“The government cannot do it alone, so we need to generate employment for our people.

“We want to examine our stake in the political arena.

” Therefore, the summit will have a special focus on our political emancipation and how we can best access the dividends of democracy for the benefit of our people.

“The summit will pay attention to tourism development with keen interest on agriculture and small scale industrial development,” he said.

He said the community with large expanse of arable land, irrigation dam, relatively stable power supply and two universities could become the industrial hub for Igbominaland.

“We will make use of research results from these universities to develop our community,” he said.

He said Fatai Abolaji would serve as the Chairman of the organising committee for the summit while Dr Grace Olasehinde would be the Secretary.(NAN)
