THE Kwara State University (KWASU) has received with sorrow the news of the passing of Alhaji Aminullahi Jaigbade Alao, an Ilorin based folklore musician.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Dadakuada Maestro, who died on Monday, hailed from Ilorin.

KWASU Spokesperson, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, said in a statement in Ilorin that the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed the institution’s grief at the sad loss.

”He said the legendary musician was an exemplary bard who used his art to entertain and promote historical and political awareness.

”Prof. Jimoh added that Alhaji Alao had given live performances in the university and received KWASU’s award of honorary doctorate in recognition of his contributions to music and development of society through his songs.”

The don described the deceased as an insightful, politically aware, internationally renowned artiste who would be thoroughly missed as a repertoire of historical facts and for his ingenious compositions.

The acting vice chancellor prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Dadakuada maestro and asked Allah to give the family, friends and fans of Alhaji Alao the fortitude to bear the loss.

The legendary musician was turbaned in 1991 as the King of Musicians (Oba Olorin) by the late Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulu Karnaini Gambari.

He received an honorary doctorate degree in Music from KWASU in 2018. (NAN)
