AN Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 22-year-old unemployed Segun Azeez at Kirikiri correctional facility, for allegedly robbing a pedestrian of his mobile phone at gunpoint.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the correctional facility until Nov. 4, for the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) advice.
Azeez, whose address was not provided, was being tried for conspiracy and robbery.
The Prosecutor, SP. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 19 near the Lagos State University (LASU), on Lagos-Badagry expressway.
Ogu said that the defendant and others now at large, robbed a pedestrian of his mobile phone valued at N30,000 at gunpoint.
“The defendant and his other accomplice waylaid the complainant, Mr Benedict Kalu, on his way from work; pointed the gun at him and collected his mobile phone.
“On their way, they sighted the police on patrol and took to their heels, but the defendant was later caught while others escaped,” he said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 297 and 298 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
