Lagos govt’s investments in healthcare phenomenal, says medical director

THE Medical Director of General Hospital, Epe, Dr Oluseyi Adeshola on Monday hailed the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for the infrastructural development of general hospitals in the state.

Adeshola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Epe, Lagos State that the improvement in healthcare system witnessed under the present administration was unprecedented.

“I have worked as a medical administrator in few of the general hospitals in the state and I can say authoritatively say that there is tremendous improvement in the health sector.

“General hospitals in Lagos State can boast of standard operational system.

“General hospital Epe is a good example that has been operating on standards based on availability of healthcare service system,’’ he said.

He added that people travelled far and wide to receive good health treatment at Epe General Hospital.

“I am not saying we are the best, but we have all the experience, medical experts and specialists that will give desired treatment.

“We still need some basic things to work perfectly at the hospital, but I know with time, government will look into this and make them available,’’ Dr Adeshola said.

According to him, upgrading and improving the healthcare system will complement the status of a mega city and 21st century economy desired for the state.

He also applauded Gov. Sanwo-Olu for recruiting competent health workers, skills enhancing and capacity building in essential areas of healthcare service, improved welfare and facilities upgrade.

Adeshola advised government to deepen public-private partnership, noting that it was the sustainable pathway to develop the health sector.

He said general hospitals in Lagos State could compete favourably with its foreign counterparts.

“There are health specialists, personnel, manpower and other necessary basic amenities available in general hospitals but more are still required.

“We are running a functionary and high class standard general hospital in Lagos State today.

“Government still needs to do some upgrade in the hospitals to bring them at par with world class standards,’’ he stressed.

He listed areas of need at the Epe General Hospital as those related to cardiac diseases, psychiatry, blood transfusion machines and orthopaedics.

Adeshola stressed that if all necessary amenities were installed in the hospital, it would discourage medical tourism. (NAN)
