THE Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on Friday, rounded up a 5-day capacity training programme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 90 officers working in the Basic Education Quality Assurance (BEQA) were retrained in evaluating techniques that would enhance learning.
The training programme which kicked off on Aug. 17, closed on Friday at the Oshodi Local Government Area Office and Methodist Primary School Oshodi.
Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, said that BEQA officers in the state were equipped with modern techniques of training and learning in classrooms.
According to Alawiye-King, the training is aimed at ensuring that the beneficiaries adopt best global practices, being one of LASUBEB’s mandates in improving the skills of its teaching personnel.
“We have realised that manpower development and capacity building is essential in improving learning and teaching outcomes,’’ Alawiye-King said.
He added that LASUBEB adopted a cluster system for quality control, and officials would henceforth be in charge of coordinating schools within certain specie areas in their localities.
“We all cannot be in the schools at the same time. So, officers living in a particular area will control and supervise what happens in their localities,’’ Alawiye-King said.
He added that the board was not only monitoring the primary school content, but also the character and attitude of the teachers, all targeted at encouraging the officers in performing their duties. (NAN)
