GOV. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun has said that learning and character are tools needed for success in life, as he reminisces about his days in secondary school.

Oyetola stated this on Saturday during a dinner organised by the old students of 1964-1976 of Ife Oluwa Co-Education Grammar School in Osogbo.

The governor, who was part of the 1968/72 set of the school, recounts his experience and praised the founder of the institution, Pa Michael Akintayo Fadeyi, for establishing the school.

“I wouldn’t forget in a hurry my experience in my first year when you must of necessity, to protect yourself, have a school father, which is good.

“Discipline at that time was the order of the day, believe me, and I understand that it is always good to talk about education both in learning and character.

“You must have the two to be able to succeed in life.

“The little experience we had when we were in school, the discipline, moulded us to what we are today and it is an experience I will always remember,” Oyetola said.

The governor thanked the organiser of the dinner, Mrs Mercy Kolajo, who is the first daughter of Fadeyi, for bringing the old students together after decades, especially those who came for the programme from the U.S.

He pledged to continue to support the school in his capacity as the state governor and old student.

Earlier in her address, Kolajo said she was impressed with the administration of Oyetola that she contacted her fellow old students to honour him and associate with his government.

Mr Kunle Akande, an old student, lawmaker in Osun Assembly and friend to the governor, said that the governor was a gentle, focused and diligent student.

Mr Ismail Omipindan, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, also recounted his experience working with the governor and how the governor instructed him to only state facts about the administration.

Omipindan, reeling out all the achievement of the governor with PowerPoint presentation, highlighted the transformation done in the health and education sectors as well as road construction.
