LG chairman promises to ensure adequate security, welfare of workers

THE new Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr Comas Ugwueze, has promised to give priority to the protection of lives and property and workers’ welfare.

He also promised to consolidate on the achievements of late Chief Patrick Omeje, the immediate past chairman of the council, who died on June 16.

Ugwueze, the former Vice-Chairman, was sworn-in as the substantive chairman by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, following the sudden death of Omeje.

Late Omeje was re-elected for second term as chairman on Feb. 29.

Ugwueze who spoke to newsmen in Nsukka after addressing the council workers at Adada House, said he would consolidate on the achievement of late Omeje.

“Omeje nominated me as his deputy because of the confidence he has on me.  I will consolidate on his achievements as well as finish all projects he started before initiating new ones.

“Though he is dead but I will continue to respect and uphold the legacies he left behind,” he said

Ugwueze said that the council would continue to give priority to adequate security and welfare of its workers.

“I have already started consulting with stakeholders and security agencies so as to ensure adequate security of life and property in the area,” he said.

NAN reports that the new chairman had earlier, in company of the Vice-Chairman,  Mr Walter Ozioko and some council officials, paid  courtesy visits to some personalities in the area.

They included traditional rulers of Ibeku Opi Community, Igwe Joseph Ezea, his home town, Owerre Nsukka community, Igwe Emeka Ugwu, the community of the deceased chairman, Omeje.

He also visited Bishop Aloysius Agbo of Nsukka Anglican Diocese, Bishop Godfrey Onah of Nsukka Catholic  Diocese  and  former Nsukka Council Chairman, Mr Tony Ugwu, to seek their advice, support and prayers.
