Passage

EZINNE Margaret Uduekwesi Obiukwu was born on June 7, 1939, to the family of Late Chief Ejike Obinali Obiukwu of Akabu Village, Osumenyi in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A talented, brilliant, and obedient daughter, one of the three surviving children of her father who had lost ten of his children. She rose to become the mainstay and pillar of the family. A dutiful hardworking mother who single-handedly and diligently raised seven children (four sons and three daughters).

She was an intelligent and astute businesswoman who engaged in so many trades across Mbanesse in a bid to raise her children well. From the humble days of making Akara (Bean cake), Moi Moi, trading in salt and stockfish to becoming a renowned rich businesswoman in the business of butchery around the six surrounding towns and was known as Ogbu Anu (butcher). She single-handedly built her own house and bought a motorcycle. A feat for a woman to achieve in those days.

SOCIAL LIFE AND CHRISTIAN ACTIVITIES

An elegant lady well respected and honored among her peers and fondly referred to as OPEL UMU AGBARA. She was a good and practicing Christian who involved herself actively in the affairs and activities of the Catholic Church. An ever caring mother and was conferred with the prestigious EZINNE title of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Osumenyi before she moved on to St. Fabian Catholic Church Osumenyi, she received so many awards in her lifetime.

Opel Umu Agbara was a very social person and belong to many noble social clubs notably among which are Eziafa Social club and Mbanesse social club to mention but a few.

Late Ezinne Margaret was a well-known philanthropist and heroine of her time, a defender of the defenseless who impacted positively on all that came in contact with her. She lived a life worthy of emulation and left a legacy in humility, gentility, honesty, generosity, and hard work which obviously was well inculcated in and was well assimilated by the children as is evidenced in their lifestyles and relationship with others.

SICKNESS AND DEATH

Uduekwesi had always been a strong woman though she took ill in November 2020 and was taken to NATH Nnewi where she was treated and healed to the glory of God. She was at St. Fabian’s Catholic Church on the 3rd  of January for their annual harvest thanksgiving celebrations and participated actively in buying so many things and gifts for herself and her daughters-in-law.

On the morning of 4th January 2021, she died peacefully after waking up from her sleep. May the name of the Lord be glorified for a life well spent and for a peaceful home call.

She survived by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives too numerous to mention.
