A heavy duty truck, Mercedes 911, with registration number XB 751-PHC, yesterday crushed a woman and her grand child to death at IKB Junction, Ejighinandu, Nnobi-Ekwulobia Expressway in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to an eye witness, Emma Ezeji, “the break of the lorry failed as soon as it got to Eke Awka-etiti market and with the driver losing control, he rammed into Mama Ejima and the baby.”

He said that the deceased, popularly called Mama Ejima, was a widow in the area who sold banana to provide for her family since her husband died early in their marriage.

It was also gathered that the woman had just closed for the day and was heading home with her grandchild when the accident occurred and cut short their lives.

The accident left the victims with decapitated heads, crushed bodies with the woman’s hand cut off from the joint while the children of the deceased lay besides her crying uncontrollably as the crowd watched helplessly.

One of the first to arrive the scene of the accident was the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano who was on his way back from a function at a neighbouring town, Mbosi. – News Express
