BASHIR Sheriff Machina has reaffirmed his aspiration as the APC senatorial candidate for Yobe North senatorial district.

In a letter to the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, national chairman, dated June 13, 2022, Machina, emerged the winner of the Yobe North senatorial ticket with a total vote of 289 out of 300 votes that were casted at the senatorial primaries on May 28th, stated his resolve not to step down.

“I write to reaffirm that I remain committed to the mandate which I won at the primaries and I have not in any form or manner communicated otherwise. I have been informed of a purported malicious, and insinuation to the contrary,” Machina said.

A report by Premium Times alleged that Ahmed Lawan was making moves within the party hierarchy to have him replace Machina as the party’s representative.

It is, however, gathered that Sen. Lawan, who was believed to be the consensus presidential candidate of the APC and later lost to Sen. Bola Tinubu during the APC presidential primaries, is allegedly plotting to replace Machina.

But a group known as APC Zone C has pledged its support for the Yobe senatorial candidate of the party, Bahir Machina.

In a statement, the group urged Lawan to express thanks to the good people of Zone C for the support he had received from them since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999 and not to drag the senate seat that he abandoned for the presidential ticket.

According to Premium Times report, the leader of the group Abba Maina Yusafari said in a statement that s Lawan should be grateful to the people of the district for electing him, making him their representative for 23 years.

He, however, said that it was undemocratic for Lawan to be allegedly plotting to replace Machina, who won the election conducted during the party primaries.
