Man, 23, docked for alleged theft of items worth N1.5m

THE Police on Wednesday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Abdulsalam Sheriff, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly robbing his victims of iPhones and wristwatches valued N1.515 million.

Sheriff, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a four-count charge of armed robbery and possession of firearms.

The Prosecutor, Insp Mathew Akhaluode, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, had on June 8 at about 7:30 p.m. at Oshodi Street, Ikotun, conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: armed robbery.

He said the defendant along with his accomplices now at large, while armed with a gun and other dangerous weapons, stole one Infinix Hot 5 phone valued N65,000, one Tecno Camon 16 phone valued N160,000 and one Infinix Hot 5 phone valued N55,000.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also stole one Gold necklace valued N200, 000 and N102,000 cash from the complainant, one Samson Alegbe.

Akhaluode said the offence contravened Section 296 and punishable under Section 297(1) (2)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

He further alleged that the defendant and his accomplices, again on July 11, at about 2:20 p.m., while armed with dangerous weapons robbed another victim, Mr Qudus Jimoh, of his iphones, valued at N1.5 million, one wrist watch and necklace valued N15,000, all with the total valued of N1.515 million.

Akhaluode further told the court that defendant was also caught while in possession of a locally made gun on Aug.4.

He said the offences contravened Section 296 and punishable under Section 297(1) (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and also Section 4, Punishable under Section 27(1) (b)(II) of the Firearms Act, ‘Cap F.28, Vol.6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2010.

The Magistrate, Mrs F. D. Hughes, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered his remand and adjourned the case until Nov. 8, to await the Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice. (NAN)
