Man, 29, docked for allegedly impersonating naval officer

 A 29-year-old, Sunday Johnson, was on Friday, docked at a Badagry Magistrate’s Court for impersonating a naval officer.

Johnson, whose address is unknown, charged on a one-count of impersonation, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the accused committed the offense on March 16, at about 8:20 p.m. along Owode-Apa, Badagry, Lagos.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused, being a civilian impersonated a naval officer by putting on a complete Navy uniform with the intent to be taken to be a member of the armed forces of Nigeria.

The prosecutor said the offense contravened Section 77 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Lazarus Hotepo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos government.

The chief magistrate adjourned the case until April 27 for further hearing. (NAN)
