A 29-year-old man, Sunday James, was on Monday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

James, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant and one other at large, committed the offence on March 14 night in Oriapata area, opposite School of Nursing in Ado-Ekiti.

Leramo alleged that the defendant and one other at large broke and entered into the shop of one Mrs Arowolo Idowu.

He alleged that they stole foodstuffs valued at N322,150, belonging to the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 413(2), 412 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

He asked for an adjourned date to enable the police to duplicate the case file and forward to the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence was committed last night and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre.

The Magistrate, Mrs Mojisola Salau, ordered the remand of the defendant at correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.

She adjourned the case until April 12 for mention. (NAN)
