A 50-year-old man, Ishola Abdulkabiru, was on Tuesday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti over an alleged fraud of N1. 3m.

Abdulkabiru, whose address was not given, is facing a count charge of fraud.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Legal Officer, Mr Femi Ojo, told the Court that the accused committed the offence between 2014 and April 2015 at Oke-Ila Street in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N1, 328, 000 at various times under pretence, with intent to defraud one Oluwayemi Ojopekun.

He said the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The Prosecutor asked court for a short adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, while his counsel, Mr Famuagun Tijani, urged the court to admit him to bail, with a pledge that he would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that one of the sureties must present a document of landed property and adjourned the case until Sept. 25, for hearing. (NAN)
