Man in court for alleged assault on police officer, 1 other

A 56-year-old man, Ramon Kamoru, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer and one other.

Kamoru, who resides at 118 AIT Road, Joke -Ayo, Alagbado, Lagos, is facing a a four-count charge of conspiracy, grievous harm, assault and breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on Dec. 19, 2022 at Joke- Ayo Bus Stop, Alagbado, Lagos.

Akeem said the defendant beat-up the  complainant, ASP Peter Mwali, while he was carrying out his lawful duty.

He said the defendant and his accomplices pounced on the complainant, beat him up and stoned him.

The prosecutor said the defendant also threw a stone that hit a pedestrian, Mr Gafar Omogbolahan, on his left eye that caused him grievous harm.

The prosecutor said both the police officer and the pedestrian were rushed to the hospital.

Akeem said the offences contravened Sections 168, 174, 245 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until April 26 for mention. (NAN)
