AN NGO, Mangal foundation, has commenced free medical treatment for vulnerabe patients in the area of hernia, hydrocele, urology, and eye problem in the state.

The Administrative Officer of the foundation, Mr Muhammed Sada who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Katsina, said the gesture was part of their corporate social responsibilities.

According to Sada, within the period of the exercise which is ongoing at General Hospital Katsina, more than over 1,000 vulnerable patients are targeted for the first quarter.

He explained that 500 patients with different eye problems had so far registered for the treatment, saying patients from neighbouring states also came for the treatment.

“Like you know, before the commencement of the exercise we made an announcement, and we collaborated with the state Health Management Service Board.

“After the patients went for screening and checkups, we have so far conducted a cattera surgery for about 100 patients.

“Also, about 300 with sight problems were given free medicated glasses while about 200 were checked, received treatment, given drugs and were discharged.

“And we have screened about 50 patients with urology problems that will undergo a surgery. We provided the patients with all the necessary things during the exercise, including food.

“They will not pay a single Naira for anything, it’s the foundation that will pay all the cost.

“Therefore, those patients should be aware of this, we are not asking for a single Kobo from them.”

He added that no fewer than 265 hernia and hydrocele patients were screened and would undergo a surgery, while the rest were cross examined, treated, given drugs and discharged.

According to Sada, it is a continuous exercise, patients with such illnesses from within and outside the state can visit their office in Katsina and give their information for the next batch.(NAN)
