NIGERIAN Navy on Thursday in Lagos launched its fourth quarter sea exercise codenamed “Execise Amum Buneng”

(Calm Waters) aimed at assessing the operational readiness of its ships.

Rear Adm. Habila Ngalabak, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), launched the
exercise onboard Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Unity at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Lagos.

He said “it is pertinent to remind us that the prosperity and security of maritime nations are inevitably linked to the seas.

“The aim of this exercise is to assess the operational readiness of the ships within the Western Naval Command Area of Responsibility.”

Ngalabak said that the exercise would involve Maritime Combat Operations, Maritime Security Operations and Maritime Assistance Operations.

“The Maritime Combat Operations will involve the conduct of amphibious operations, Maritime Special Operations, Riverine Operations and Gunnery Exercises.

“The maritime security operations will entail Maritime Interdiction Operation, Visit Board Search and ‘Seizure and anti-piracy.

“Additionally, the maritime assistance operations will cover emergency response at sea, as well as search and rescue operations.”

He added that the command would do everything in its power to always ensure the waters were safe for legitimate business to thrive.

He thanked the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, for providing the necessary support to ensure that the command performed
its constitutional roles in ensuring safe and secure environment.
