The Catholic Diocese of Enugu has declared a one-week-long prayer over what it described as the desecration of the Holy Altar of worship by the followers of Reverend Father Camillus Ejike Mbaka.

In a letter entitled: “Prayer of Atonement and Reparation” addressed to all the parishes, chaplaincies and religious houses in the Enugu Catholic Diocese, Bishop Callistus Onaga, Bishop of Enugu, urged all Catholic members to remain sober and keep the diocese in prayer.

The prayer begins from Friday, May 7, and ends on Friday, May 14.

The letter reads: “On 5th of May 2021, the followers of Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria violently broke into the diocesan cathedral church and desecrated the holy altar of sacrifice. Over and above this, they brutally vandalized the diocesan bishop’s residence, the cathedral parish house secretariat building complex.

“Therefore I hereby declare and call for a one week union of prayer in reparation and atonement for this heinous act against our central place of worship and the sanctity of the church.

“In addition to the traditional May devotion prayers, like daily benediction, the following prayers are to be offered for this purpose : Five decade of the Holy Rosary, Acts of Reparation to the Most Blessed Sacrament, and Psalms 51 and 23.”
